Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • very poor design - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The door handles are built into the whole inside panel, and they are brittle. so we have a 05 limited with the HEMI 5.8L 2 door handle have broken, 3rd on way out. and looking at 700+ per door. 99% of cars have the handle seperate, why the heck they choice this design i dont know, but its poorly done. there was talk they were going to recall this online, but to thi date they havent and refuse to help with this. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Heap of Jeep! - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Our 96 Grand - aint so! Differential (went out!), A/C (went out), computer under hood (fried!), transmission fluid (leaking as we speak), wheel shimmy (makes an exciting ride!) all THIS within a year and 1/2 of owning this Heap of Jeep! Its the proverbial MONEY PIT! Looks GREAT - but, I dont even trust it to run to the grocery store!! If it werent for a husband thats mechanically inclined AND an extended warranty - it would be GONE... Whats worse?? still paying on the loan! Run - Run as fast as you can - STEP AWAY FROM A JEEP!!!!!!

  • Horrible Gas Mileage, Very Poor Interior - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive driven this jeep now for around 24 months and am about to turn it back it to the dealer after my flease is up...thank god! I must say, for a quickly depreciating $30,000+ Chrysler vehicle, should I be surprised? I have the 65th Anniversary Edition that came out around Jan-Feb, 2006. The interior leaves much to be desired--hard plastic everywhere, questionable fit and finish and seat fabric that easily stains with the slightest bit of a rain drop. The gas mileage is atrocious. I average 14.2 mpg, granted, I live in Atlanta and drive mostly in city type traffic. Also, Im sure the 4x4 version I have and never use on the newly paved suburban roads isnt helping out much either.

  • Most awarded vehicle??? - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is touted as the most awarded vehicle but I doubt anyone who awarded these is an actual owner of the eco diesel. First off I loved this vehicle(for 10000 miles). Everything about it was great. The gas mileage is great but after 10k miles it began!! Fiat Chrysler should never have released this vehicle with all the recalls and emissions problems specifically in the eco-diesel. Read up on this in Jeep blogs. I have been in the dealership(double digits) more with this one vehicle then my last 6 vehicles combined. Its been a year now and this vehicles check engine(MIL) light has not been off more than a week in the last 8 months. Dealership nor Chrysler techs seem to be able to fix these issues. Unbelievable what close to $50k buys you nowadays. Obviously not everyone runs into these issues and it may not happen to you..thats what I originally thought and it happened to me. Just beware. Ill never buy another Chrysler product again due to them not backing their product nor caring about their consumers.

  • Brake issues - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is the second and last Jeep I will ever purchase. I love Jeeps, but Chrysler does not love their customers, they have brake rotor issues. First brake job at 18,000 miles (warranty). Second at 28,000 "good will" warranty; we paid the labor! Third is now at 38,000 miles, they claim they dont have any brake problems. Im here to warn you, they do have brake problems and it is expensive! Nissan Pathfinder here I come.

  • Sorry I rushed into this purchase - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The V-6 is too sluggish getting on freeways, no pickup. Heater on floor level on either driver/passenger side virtually gives off no heat in very cold conditions. A very loud ticking noise at idle from under hood, dealer says it is normal, live with it! Chrysler advised me yesterday to get a second opinion at another dealer. Huge gas guzzler, costs $34-38 to fill up. Snow gets all over front seats from roof top when I open doors to start car. Uncomfortable radio controls in steering wheel causing aches in hands from repetative use. Driver rear view mirror doesnt heat up as quickly as the passenger mirror. .

  • DO NOT BUY a Grand Cherokee - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

And this is from somebody who has only owned Jeep products and going back to 1993. Mine is an 06 Hemi Limited with 29,000 miles now. 2nd day I owned it had to be towed away on a flat bed. The electronic throttle control went out. At 17,000 miles both differentials needed to be rebuilt. Drive shafts replaced for vibrations, memory seat work when it wants to. Passenger side window wont go up without a fight sometimes (window regulator) Engine ticks, transmission clunks, cannot be driven at 65 mph since the tranny cant make up its mind. The dealerships are complete scum and constantly try to get out of warranty work. You must fight them on everything. $44,000 msrp and now worth $15K

  • Disappointed Jeep Owner - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my third Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am having substantial problems with the transmission. The Jeep shudders when taking the smallest hill, though I have the 5.7 L engine. Jeep cannot fix the problem, and told the dealer to tell me the shudder is normal. I have been a loyal Jeep owner for 15 years but am now in a Lemon Law proceeding. Other problems include being on my third factory installed CD player, though I use the player less than once a week. Too bad Jeep wont stand behind the product, and in fact has been nasty to work with. I would like to keep driving Jeeps but cannot recommend due to their lack of standing behind the product.

  • Very Sad - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Our Jeep started bucking and becoming undriveable at 5000 miles. This is intermittent and has caused several delays on family trips. The manufacturer just says, "bad gas". They did extend our warranty to 70,000 miles, free. Big deal, the car is not reliable. They have yet to find the problem. We are going on three years of this. Tomorrow we go to "Lemon Law" court with the manufacturer. Wish us luck.

  • Jeeps suck! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I should have been careful and bought a Japanse Suv. The MPG sucks and so does the ride. The engine is very weak and build quality is poor.
